Let us muse from Amos 4:4-5 and sins we over look. The sin we desire to look at today is hypocrisy. Bethel and Gilgal were famous places to Israel. Bethel was were Abraham and Jacob built altars and called on the Lord. Gilgal was the first camp site for the nation when they came into the promise land. God had commanded them to worship at Jerusalem. They had it seem a great crowd singing, giving, and worshiping in these places. It seem from the crowds they were experiencing national revival. The Lord saw their hearts and was not impressed at all. The word hypocrisy means play acting with a mask on. I wonder how much of our church services are nothing more than a performance on a stage and a stitch in the nostrils of our God.
