Zephaniah’s Name, Recipient, And Theme

Let us muse today from Zephaniah 1:1 an introductory remark from this book. May we see today Zephaniah’s name, recipient, and the theme of this book. The prophets name means Jehovah hides or Jehovah protects. The theme is the day of the Lord. This depicts a time when God will judge the nations. It will certainly be a time when we need to be hidden in the Lord. The recipient of this book was  Josiah king of Judah. This was the last of the righteous kings. He led this people during his time into a national revival when he found the word of God in the Temple. He lifted up the word before his people. He was killed in a battle against the king of Egypt. He went down in history as a righteous king who brought revival. Oh may God raise up such political leaders in our day.
