The Fourth Woe

Let us muse today from Habakkuk 2:15-17 in a section I have entitled the prophet’s awaiting. The Lord gives the prophet 3 assignments one of which is declare the word. There are five woes given clearly by Habakkuk in this declaration of the word. The fourth was a woe about drunkenness and sensual behavior. Let us be careful with strong drink. There is so much discussion about what the Bible teaches about abstinence and freedom to drink in moderation. There is one area that cannot be refuted and that is the ideas of the evils that accompany strong drink. In first Corinthians 6:10 we are told that no drunkard will inherit the kingdom of God. This intoxication in the book of Habakkuk led to the sensual behavior of nakedness. Oh how the two often go hand-in-hand. I think I will just believe in total abstinence and not play Russian roulette with something so dangerous as strong drink.
