Jonah’s Stubbornness

Let us muse today from Jonah 1:11-14 and Jonah’s stubbornness. When the men asked Jonah what should be done to calm the sea, he said I am a Hebrew and one that fears the God of heaven. We know that this was but religious talk. If he really believed in the God of heaven he would have told the captain I need to get back to Nineveh, take me to the nearest port so I can get a ship going back to were the God of heaven, the sea, and dryland told me to go. Instead he tells them to cast him into the sea. In his stubbornness he is telling the God of heaven I would rather die than do what you want me to. Die he will, Jesus tells us in the gospels that Jonah was three days and nights in the depths as He will be three days and nights in the grave. God always has the remedy for our stubborn ways.
