Let us muse from Amos chapter 9 and the final affirmation from Amos. These affirmations were sent by God through Amos. The first is in verse one when God says I will strike. Amos said he saw the Lord standing upon the altar at the temple. This was probably at one of the northern temples. God said strike it down. God refuse to accept their worship or forgive their sins. This was man-made worship and became an abomination unto the Lord. He would now destroy it. I wonder how much of what we do at the house of God is man-made? I wonder how much we do is not sanctioned by nor does it have the touch of the Holy Ghost upon it? I fear we have run the circle of trying every man-made tool to create worship, praise, and we are none the better. Maybe it is time to get back to the basics of a little singing, much praying, well studied out expositional preaching, and leave the rest alone.
