The Deliverance Is completed

Let us muse today from Obadiah verses 18-20 and the deliverance is completed. We find that the children of Israel are like a fire and the children of Esau are like stubble. All of the nations of Edam, Moab, Ammon, and Philistine, which are Syria and Egypt will be gone. Iraq which is Babylon and Iran which is ancient Persia will all fall to Israel. In verses 19-20 there will be a great revival among the Hebrew nation. They shall possess all that God gave them to start with. It will be clear to all that He is Lord, He is Lord, every knee shall bow and say He is the Lord.

The Deliverer Is Christ

Let us muse today from Obadiah verse 17 and the deliverer is Christ. Obadiah looks down through time and sees the deliverance come to mount Zion. A nation that looked as though it was gone and ravished by the Edomites will one day arise. We are told they will possess the possessions of Jacob. This will be the vast area promised to Abraham that extends from the Nile River to the Euphrates. No one could possess this land unless Christ came and the Holy Spirit was dwelling within. When He comes He will set up His kingdom and there will be the perfect law of Christ to rule the world. What a day that will be.

The Date Is Coming

Let us muse today from verses 15-16 of Obadiah and the idea of the date is coming. In verse 15 Obadiah tells us that the day of the Lord is near. The word near implies at the door. Although men have spoken of the Lord’s coming for hundreds of years and always make as though it was near, it is nearer now than ever before. The Edomites have continually been Israel’s enemies. These Arab nations in and around the Jordan will one day make an alliance with Russia and come down upon God’s people. It will seem as though Israel is swallowed up like a glass of wine, but be assured God says He will do to Edom what they have done to His people. Keep your eyes on this little middle eastern nation of Israel because soon business will pick up their and set the stage for a deliverer to come.

Edom’s Third Sin

Let us muse today from Obadiah verse 14 and the sins that brought Edom’s judgment. We have looked at two of their sins thus far. They are Edom encouraged Judah’s enemies and Edom enjoyed Judah’s end. Let us look today at Edom enslaved Judah’s exiles. When Nebuchadnezzar took Jerusalem many fled and tried to get away from the captivity. The Edomites stood at the crossroads and when they thought they had made it safely away the Edomites would come and chain them up and take them back to Babylonian camp. Oh what wickedness. Israel had been commanded to always treat Edom as a brother and give diligence to evangelize them to know Israel’s one true God. The Edomites never recognize Israel as a brother, but only as an enemy. Oh how we treat those who are blood kin as if they were our enemies. How can we say we love God and hate our blood kin?

Sins That Brought Judgment

Let us muse today from Obadiah verses 12-13 and the sins of Edom that brought judgment. The first we looked at was Edom encouraged Judah’s enemies. We will look today at the second  which is Edom enjoyed Judah’s end. I can imagine the day Nebuchadnezzar took the city of Jerusalem a great cheer came up from the Edomites. They began to gloat and boast in Judah’s fall. They even went into the city to grab any spoil they might could find. Obadiah warned them that it would cost them dearly. How often do we as God’s people kick and kill our wounded in the church. A person will fall into sin and instead of we who are spiritual trying to help them up we kick them while they are down or we just finished them all. Let us be assured such actions will not go unjudge by our Lord.

Judgment Delivered

Let us begin to muse from Obadiah versus 10-14 and judgment delivered on Edom. It seems that Edom committed three sins and stepped over God’s mercy line and for which God had no forgiveness. The first is mentioned in verses 10-11 when Edom encouraged Judah’s enemies. The Jews had many faults but they were still God’s people. Edom’s alignment with Israel’s enemies will cause them shame and to be cut off for ever. In verse 11 Edom chooses sides against Israel. They applaud Israel’s downfall. Proverbs said, he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished. Oh how many are joyful today when the church fails are God’s man fall. Let us remember God is watching and will not let such activity go unpunished.

The Slaughter Of The Warriors

Let us muse today from Obadiah verse nine and the slaughter of Edom’s warriors. Obadiah fine tunes the prophetical telescope and looks down through time. He saw Edom begin to be overcome and slaughtered by Nebuchadnezzar’s army. He saw the Maccabean warriors reduce Edom even lower. When the Romans came Edom would lose their identity. No matter of wisdom or warriors could save Edom when God decreed their downfall. It happened just like Obadiah saw it. I wonder when God will decreed the downfall of America? Our armies or our great wisdom will not save us. Let us as God’s people look to him to be our refuge and strength and not man’s wisdom or might.

The Slaughter Of The Wise

Let us muse today from Obadiah verse eight and the slaughter of the wise. Although Esau and Jacob were twins they were poles apart in their thinking. The nation of Israel was known for being religious and the Edomites were very irreligious and profane. There is little or no mention of Edom’s gods. Edom was known for being clever and very wise. One of Job’s friends Eliphaz was known for his wisdom. The Herods who killed Jesus and John were Edomites. Today’s Russian are known for their wisdom. When America plays checkers Russia plays chess. Because of Russia’s hatred for God and His people all their wisdom will not keep them when heaven’s judgment is leveled. God has chosen the foolish of this world to confound the wise.

Profaned Treaty

Let us muse today from Obadiah verse seven an a profaned treaty. Edom had made a treaty of peace in a confederacy with those around them. God put it in the heart of all those at peace with Edom to turn on them because of their treatment of the Jewish nation. God sent the Confederate nations against Edom, ate their bread, and laid a wound on them no man could heal.Let us be careful of those who turn against Israel, they are courting the wrath of Almighty God.

Plundered Treasure

Let us in muse today from Obadiah verse 5-6 and Edom’s plundered treasure. It was the custom of Edom to set up roadblocks and tax caravans traveling to the east. If they could not pay the tax they took all that they had. The Edomites had caves full of goods that had been taken from others. In verse five God said if a grape stealer came he would leave you a few grapes, but because you have no mercy upon those you taxed when the enemy comes he will take all they you have. Edom had stepped over God’s mercy line in verse 6 and God took all they had.I wonder when America will step over God’s mercy line in their taxing of the people?
